Corporal George Johnston Karr. On Memorial Day, one remembers Great-Uncle George, who fought and died as a U.S. Marine on the Pacific Front, and all those who have been lost as a result of their service to their country. Born at Steelton, Pennsylvania, on 15 December 1923, George Johnston Karr was the first of the five children of George Washington Karr (1903-1951) and Hazel Lena Johnston (1901-1990), who married on 4 August 1921. George was joined by three brothers: Donald Eugene Karr (1925-2009), Harold Ray Karr (1927-2015), and Richard Lorraine Karr (1929-1987).
